Stay cozy with tea lattes this Autumn

October 07, 2015

Autumn is here and it’s the perfect time for tea lattes! The full flavour of tea topped with warm frothy milk is all you need for a cozy night in – a roaring fire helps too.

Coffee tends to have all the fun with its flavoured lattes, cappuccinos and macchiatos, yet tea is just as versatile. Start experimenting with different tea lattes and you will find the one that works for you, or if you are looking for some inspiration, why not try a couple of our favourites – you can find the recipes further down the page.

So, what makes a great tea latte? Well, any blend of tea can technically be used to make a tea latte, however some teas will work best, for example rooibos and black teas often work well as the tea itself has a much stronger flavour. If you want to benefit from all the goodness of green tea, try a Matcha latte, which is said to contain very high levels of antioxidants and still gives you that 'get up and go' feeling. If you like your tea lattes on the sweeter side you can always add a dash of agave syrup or honey to the mix.

If you are a fan of coffee try our Vanilla Mocha tea as a latte. You’ll be surprised at how similar this tastes to a flavored latte, but it comes without the high caffeine levels as the tea has a Rooibos base (rooibos being naturally caffeine free).

Vanilla Mocha Tea Latte Recipe (Rooibos tea base):

1) Add a heaped of Vanilla Mocha tea into a loose leaf infuser and pour over ¼ cup of boiling water

2) Leave to steep for 3-4+ mins and remove the infuser

3) Heat coconut or almond milk in a saucepan and ensure you remove it from the heat before it boils (you can use regular milk however the coconut/almond milk helps to give the latte a creamy flavour)

4) Pour the milk over the tea, dust cacao powder on top and enjoy!

Another tea latte you may want to try is a ‘London Fog’, a classic combination of Earl Grey tea with a touch of vanilla. This has to be one of our all time favourites – check out how we like to brew it below.

London Fog Latte Recipe (Black tea base):

1) Add 1-2 teaspoons of Handsome Earl Grey tea into a loose leaf infuser and pour over ½ cup of boiling water

2) Leave to steep for 3-4+ mins and remove the infuser

3) Heat coconut or almond milk in a saucepan and ensure you remove it from the heat before it boils (you can use regular milk however the coconut/almond milk helps to give the latte a creamy flavour)

4) Pour the milk over the tea and add ¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract or 1 teaspoon of vanilla syrup (add more sweetener if needed)

5) Dust with cinnamon and enjoy!

Other tea blends that work particularly well as lattes are Detox Delight, Caramel Fudge, Speakeasy and Matcha.
